With a 38% mortality rate the hantavirus - formerly known as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is no joke. When it appears in humans the hantavirus can result in flu-like symptoms that in severe cases cause respiratory failure. The virus can be transmitted by contact with certain wild rodents and their habitats. Because hantavirus progresses quite quickly, early identification of key symptoms can mean the difference between life and death.

Mice cause damage by gnawing on insulation and building material, furniture, paper, clothing, and books. They contaminate food with their urine, hair, and droppings. Food can become contaminated with germs like salmonella. Mice also carry fleas, mites, and the disease hantavirus.

One way to identify if you have mice in your house is the smell of urine. Mouse urine plays an important role in communicating with other rodents. Oftentimes, rodents will mark an area to attract females or warn off other males. A distinct odor may become noticeable in an area with a large rodent population or when rodents have been present for a long period of time. Another way to identify a mice problem is mouse poop. Where there are mice, there are droppings. These small pellets are commonly found anywhere the animals have visited or traveled. Approximately 3 to 6 mm long, the droppings may be rod shaped with pointed ends.

To exterminate Mice, hire a professional pest control service like GB Pest Control. GB services all the east beaches communities including Traverse Bay, Grand Beach, Victoria Beach, Hillside, Belair, Grand Marais, Albert Beach, Lester Beach, and Pine Falls.
